2014 Facts

The contest was held immediately after the Russian military actions annexed Crimea. Votes cast in Crimea were counted as Ukrainian as it is Ukrainian telecom providers which service Crimea.

Conchita Wurst proved a controversial winner; men in conservative counties like Russia shaved their beards and orthodox religious leaders blamed her victory for the cause of flooding across parts of Europe later that year.

The Russian act was contiually booed by the crowd and also juries were booed when point were given to Russia during the voting, predominanlty in response to the activities in Crimea just weeks before the contest.

The stage design has been widely praised by many members of ESC press as one fo the best ever.#
