1974 Facts

The contest was hosted in Brighton after a double win for Luxembourg saw them unable to afford to host the contest for a second time in a row.

Ann-Marie David, the previous winner, was unable to travel to the UK to present the trophy to the winners a French president George Pompidou's funeral was held on the same day. The president had died the week before and had also lead France to withdraw from the contest out of respect.

Winners Abba went on to achieve global superstar status, becoming one of the most succesful acts ever to win Eurovision.
